Some vintage models are ugly, (not to put too fine a point on it), but take a look at the Black Magic, the all balsa construction design is superb. The engine installation, the tailplane mounted part way up the fin, the faired undercarriage legs, all add up to sheer elegance. Fred Hempsall got it right way back in 1946 but the construction techniques exclude beginners.
