In 1912, after colliding with an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York, the RMS Titanic disappeared into the Atlantic Ocean. Titanic has become one of the most famous ships in history; the memory is kept alive by numerous works of popular culture, including books, folk songs, films, exhibits and memorials.
The colossal liner was 882 feet 9 inches long with a maximum breadth of 92 feet 6 inches. Her total height, measured from the base of the keel to the top of the bridge, was 104 feet, and with sister ship Britannic holds the record for the largest vessel lost at sea in the twentieth century.
